My Future-proof Company
How can employees help shape their companyโs climate plans? This was the central challenge of the โMy Future-Proof Companyโ (ESF+) project. In eight companies, union members explored how to give employees a voice in the process.
Employees in the driverโs seat for a sustainable workplace
In the project My Future-Proof Company, eight trade union groups in Flanders and the Netherlands explored how workers can gain a voice and influence in the climate transition within their companies. The project is a collaboration between Reset.Vlaanderen, Flemish and Dutch trade unions (ABVV, ACLVB, ACV, FNV), and environmental organizations (Bond Beter Leefmilieu, Milieudefensie). It builds on the earlier initiative Workers as a Lever for a Circular Economy.
The need for change is clear: companiesโespecially in industryโmust drastically reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases and other harmful substances. This is essential for a healthy and safe future, as well as for maintaining public support among local communities and society at large.
A successful shift to zero-emissions operations prepares a company for the economy of the future. However, this transition also has direct consequences for workers. Thatโs why it is crucial that they are actively involved in the decisions being made. The project showed that trade union members can play an important role in this process, and that their involvement helps make the transition fairer and more socially sustainable..
